Fungal DNA
Barcoding Workshops

Since the summer of 2024, I’ve been hosting fungal DNA barcoding workshops at my place. Here, NYMS members extract fungal DNA, amplify it using PCR, conduct gel electrophoresis, and interpret sequenced results. Identifying species through DNA is important since many fungi lack distinct morphological features, and DNA barcoding enables a more comprehensive and unbiased exploration of fungal diversity and ecology.

Fungal Microscopy

On March 2025, I led a fungal microscopy table at Pioneer Works Second Sundays. I brought specimens from our walk the past weekend at Cunningham Park, Queens. I wanted to showcase how even during the winter, you could find these unassuming tiny fungi on branches and dead logs which have fascinating morphological structures up close - such as the Annulohypoxylon Annulatum that I’m pointing at, and the cross section of the Xylria Liquidambaris next to it.
